Frequently Asked Questions

How often does Jesuit offer standardized test prep courses?

Jesuit offers an ACT® Prep Course three times each year – in the spring, summer, and fall.

What do Jesuit’s standardized test prep courses entail?

In Jesuit’s ACT® test preparation course, students are taught strategies for each portion of the ACT®, and students take four actual, past ACT® tests in their entirety as practice. The course also includes strategies for the essay part of the ACT®.

Should my son take the ACT or the SAT?

The TOPS program in Louisiana accepts either the ACT® or the SAT. Colleges and universities in Louisiana accept the ACT® or the SAT for admission. Most colleges or universities outside Louisiana accept either the ACT® or the SAT for admission; students should check each college’s admission requirements. It may be beneficial for a student to take both tests in order to discover on which test he scores higher.

Visit the ACT’s website for more details and for registration for the actual ACT® test.

Visit the College Board’s website for more details and for registration for the actual SAT test.

When is the best time to take the ACT or the SAT?

Students at Jesuit are encouraged to take the ACT® or SAT no later than the end of their junior year. Some take it as early as the end of their sophomore year.

Taking it by the end of the junior year allows a student time to retake it if he wants to get a higher score. At the end of the year a student will also have just completed another year of English and math, which will help on the ACT® or SAT. Some students also find it very helpful to take the ACT® or SAT immediately after a prep course.

The PSAT is given just once a year, in October.
