Canvas

Canvas is a powerful Learning Management System (LMS) tailored to enhance your academic experience. Designed with students in mind, Canvas provides a streamlined platform where you can effortlessly access course materials, submit assignments, participate in discussions, and track your grades. With its intuitive interface, staying on top of your academic tasks becomes simpler than ever. Whether you’re collaborating on group projects, seeking additional resources, or communicating with your instructors and peers, Canvas centralizes all your educational needs in one organized space.

Laptop Guidelines

Students at Jesuit High School do not bring personal laptops to school for daily use. However, it is important that each student has access to a reliable computer at home to complete assignments, submit work, and participate in occasional virtual learning.

While classroom instruction takes place in person, virtual learning may be used as needed in the event of unforeseen closures. To be prepared, students should have a laptop at home that meets the following guidelines.

Minimum Recommended Laptop Specifications:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or 11, or macOS 12 or later
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 (or better)
  • Memory (RAM): 8 GB minimum
  • Storage: 256 GB SSD or larger
  • Camera & Microphone: Built-in webcam and microphone (required for Zoom)
  • Networking: Wi-Fi capable
  • Battery Life: 6+ hours recommended
  • Display: At least 13” screen for comfortable viewing

Software Requirements:

  • Ability to install and run the desktop versions of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to install and use Zoom for live virtual instruction
  • Compatibility with a secure testing lockdown browser (such as Respondus LockDown Browser)

Additional Notes:

  • Tablets and Chromebooks are not recommended, as they may not support required software.
  • Jesuit students can download Microsoft Office for free using their school-issued Microsoft 365 account.
