Wrestling

In a sport in which iron sharpens iron, Jesuit wrestling is etched into Louisiana sports history. With origins in the city’s early prep tournaments, Jesuit grapplers earned program’s first crown in 1951 with the same habits of pacing, displacing, and composure that continue to fuel Blue Jay wrestlers’ performances today.

Through every era, Jesuit wrestling has maintained clarity in its approach: accountability in training, resilience across two-minute periods, and a team-first approach that forms competitors on the mat and steady leaders beyond it.

Louisiana high school wrestling began at the New Orleans Athletic Club in 1945; just six seasons later, Jesuit claimed its first team title in 1951. A generation later, legendary results including 11 consecutive state championships from 1988–98 came from stacking depth, winning small positions, and converting rides and turns.

The present echoes that past: Division I titles in 2023, 2024, and 2025, with 321 points posted in 2024 and 284.5 in 2025 to separate from a deep Catholic League field.
