Several students line up to have their voices heard during the 2021 grade-level elections. The voting could not be possible without Mrs. Younger and Mr. Genovese ’04, who converted their homeroom into a polling place for the Student Council Class Level Officer Election. 

Students carve into blocks during Mrs. Jennings Art II class. Carving is one of the multiple steps that each student will take to transform their blocks into beautiful block prints.

Seniors Carter Morris and Jacob Reinhardt respond to questions from WWL producer Dominic Massa ’94 over zoom. This past weekend, the Jesuit Bass Fishing Team competed in its first ever tournament in Shreveport and came away with a unique and stressful story. On the way back to the dock, Morris, Reinhardt, and Randy Reinhardt ’90 saved three gentlemen including an 86-yeard-old man from drowning. While the physical bridge has been in use all school year, today is the first day that the sign is on full display on the second floor entrance to the bridge. Jesuit continues to thank Walter ’64, Robert ’66, Klein ’68, Sid ’69, and Scott Stuart ’77 for their continued support and generosity. 

On April 13, 2021, Freshmen in Mr. Firmin’s ’10 Biology class had the opportunity to dissect earth worms. Freshmen Spencer Lanosga and Jake Giardina took on the lab together and learned much about the terrestrial invertebrate. 

In celebration of the Easter season student council hosted an egg toss that took place on Will Clark Field. Enjoying the eggcellent weather Enzo Solitario joined his fellow pre-freshman in collecting candy for every successful toss and catch they performed.

Fr. Nathan O’Halloran, S.J., talks to the Jesuit sodality about the importance of vocations to service. Fr. O’Halloran, S.J., explained the story of his parents working as catholic missionaries at the Lord’s Ranch in New Mexico, just outside of Juarez to illustrate the point that lay people can be called to a vocation of total service to the poor, and sodalists should be paying attention to this special call. 

Senior Garrett Derbes opens the grill to check on charbroiled oysters before Jesuit’s baseball game against Newman. Seniors were treated to a senior tailgate before the big game that included raw or charbroiled oysters and jambalaya. Seniors were also allowed free entrance into the highly anticipated matchup and helped the team secure a victory from the student section.

On Saturday, March 27, Jesuit rugby alumni, fathers of players, and current players met at Marconi field for the annual “Dads vs. Lads” touch rugby match. Skills were shown and no injuries were had during the muddy contest, and now all sides can start preparing for the rematch in one year’s time. 

On Thursday, March 25, junior Michael-Paul Fine led select altar servers from station to station in the Chapel of the North American Martyrs while senior Daniel Douglass explained each stop along the way. For the next two days, Jesuit students will have the opportunity to experience Jesus’ passion and obtain the sacrament of Reconciliation during their religion classes. With the end of Lent right around the corner, this event will help every Blue Jay end his lenten journey on a positive and impactful note. 

Before the mid-afternoon storm came, Jesuit students gather in the courtyard during lunch to play spikeball. The two versus two game is now a constant theme throughout both Jesuit both lunch periods, and the average passerby can sometimes even see two games occurring simultaneously.

During lunch on March 18, contestants from eighth graders to teachers participated in festival type events such as a three-point contest and dunking booth to celebrate the drive-thru Jesuit Bazaar that will be held at John Ryan Stadium on Saturday, March 20. 

On Friday, March 12, the Jesuit High School Facilities and Maintenance Crew celebrated Ernest Pierre’s last day. Pierre has been a fixture on Carrollton & Banks for 35 years, and while this is an exciting occasion, the whole Jesuit community will miss his reliable and comforting presence. 

Fr. Kevin Dyer, S.J., narrates a skit detailing St. Ignatius of Loyola’s rise to sainthood by starting with the battle of Pamplona. Upperclassmen launched water balloons signifying cannonballs, and senior class president Zack Jaubert played an extremely convincing Ignatius. Eighth graders got to see the play and engage in other spiritual discussions throughout the day on Jesuit’s campus during their pre-freshmen retreat. 

Roy Daigle ’51 attempts a shot in the Gayle & Tom Benson Arena during the Alumni Class Captains’ meeting on March 10. At the end of the meeting, alumni from each decade competed against each other in a free-throw contest for prizes and bragging rights.

Daniel Augustin’s 5th and 6th period theology classes got to play a few rounds of “trash-ketball” last Friday, March 5, to prepare for their up coming exams. Donning their favorite sports jerseys students split into two teams and were quizzed with review questions. If they answered correctly they then were able shoot from different spots in the classroom to earn points for their team.
