Welcome Week: Monday Features Big Brother/Little Brother Jambalaya Lunch in Student Commons

The Student Council kicked off their annual Welcome Week festivities with a Wild, Wild West-themed Big Brother/Little Brother jambalaya feast in the Student Commons. Each year, members of the Jesuit Alumni Association dish out a delicious jambalaya lunch for Big and Little Brothers. Bill Poynot, a parent of a Blue Jay alumnus, donates and prepares the lunch for the 500 hungry Jays.

The lunch helps welcome Little Brothers to Jesuit and thank Big Brothers for their service to the school’s newest Jays. Big Brothers help get their Little Brothers acclimated to life at Jesuit — beginning on Welcome Day in the spring, and again in the fall with Book Day, Investiture, and other start of school activities. Many Big and Little Brothers remain in touch over the years, long after each graduates.
Blue Jays of all classes, from pre-freshmen to seniors, will experience a wild western Welcome Week, with each day bringing a new adventure:
Tuesday – Oregon Trail Obstacle Course
Wednesday – County Fair
Thursday – Mechanical Bull Riding
