At the Senior vs. Faculty Football Game, Experience and Old Bones Triumph Over Exuberance of Youth

The Student Council ended lunch activities for Homecoming Week 2014 with the staging of a wild and crazy football game between Seniors and Faculty on Thursday, October 2, and a pep rally on Friday, October 3.
Several hundred Blue Jays hugged the sidelines on Will Clark Field to watch the faculty team, quarterbacked by head basketball coach Chris Jennings ’78, take down this year’s crop of seniors. The Class of 2015’s team, quarterbacked by “Go Cam” Guernsey, ran out of rallies and time, but put up an exciting fight to the finish. When the final whistle blew, the Seniors found themselves on the short end of the 27-21 score.
Both teams put on quite a show for the spectators — seven touchdowns, a couple of interceptions, trick plays, several dropped passes, a few long passes caught, and one strained hamstring (and a few more sore muscles discovered later). And the uniforms — zanier fashion could not be found elsewhere.
As fun and exciting as the game was, the pep rally on Friday, unfortunately, fizzled faster than Alka Seltzer in warm water. Give credit to the handful of seniors who made a valiant effort to stoke the spirit during the lunch period. There’s always next time.
