Bowling on a Roll, Edge Rummel 14–13

Bowling has been on a roll this season, racing out to six consecutive victories and establishing itself as a competitive force early in the year. The Blue Jays currently hold an 8–3 overall record and sit at 1–1 in district play as the season progresses. Even with six new members on the roster—including three pre-freshmen—the Blue Jays have quickly found their rhythm. Head coach Todd Bourgeois ’88 described the year as a “rebuilding” season, with a focus on developing younger bowlers while continuing to compete at a high level. That emphasis on both the physical and mental sides of the sport has helped the Jays blend veteran leadership with emerging talent as the season unfolds.
Senior captain Grant Gehring and junior Jacob Rudloff have anchored the lineup throughout the early portion of the season. Gehring opened the year with a 210 average and has delivered several standout series while also serving as a key leader for the team’s younger bowlers. Bourgeois praised his captain, saying he has helped galvanize the team and guide new members through the demands of varsity competition. Rudloff has also been a consistent performer for the Jays, regularly producing high scores and helping stabilize the lineup in critical moments.
The Blue Jays showcased their depth from the start of the season with dominant performances in several early matchups. Gehring and Rudloff led the way in the opening victory with impressive three-game series, while junior Jack Daul contributed steady scoring. Freshman Jack Brennecke quickly made an impact in his first varsity action, posting a 205 game early in the season and continuing to be a reliable contributor in the lineup. As the season has progressed, additional bowlers have stepped up to support the team’s success, including senior Logan Phipps and junior Erik Sam, who both delivered consistent three-game performances that helped secure key wins for the Jays.
That competitive spirit was on full display in the team’s most recent district showdown against Rummel. In one of the most tightly contested matches of the season, the Jays battled through every frame before ultimately securing a dramatic 14–13 victory. The win improved the team to 1–1 in district play and served as another example of the determination and depth that have defined the Blue Jays’ season on the lanes.
Follow the bowling team and come out to support the Jays. The next district matchup will be against Holy Cross, Monday, March 9, at 3:20 p.m. at Bowlero.
