Strong Start: Junior Cole McMyne Sets Powerlifting Record

Powerlifting has been competing since December, opening the season with an impressive showing at the Northshore Invitational. The team set the tone early, as six of the eleven Blue Jay lifters finished on the podium in their respective weight classes, highlighted by four first-place finishes.
In the 165-pound class, freshman Ashton Bourgeoise placed third, while senior William Barnett earned a first-place victory. Junior Cole McMyne claimed first in the 198-pound class, senior Anderson Casebonne won the 242-pound class, and junior Brodie Evans secured first place in the 275-pound class. Senior Oliver Cook added to the team’s success with a third-place finish in the Super Heavy Weight class.
The Blue Jays continued their strong momentum this past weekend at the second annual Catholic League Invitational, where eight of the eleven lifters brought to the meet finished on the podium. In the 165-pound class, junior Michael Dipaola placed second, while Bourgeoise captured first place. Sophomore Owen Chepolis earned second place in the 181-pound class. The 198-pound class saw senior Brock Prouet finish third, while McMyne once again took first — setting a new personal record and school record in the 198-pound weight class with a 520-pound deadlift. In the heavier weight classes, junior Alex Prechter placed second at 220 pounds, sophomore Anthony Amadeo finished third in the 242-pound class, and junior Ashton Moulliet earned second place in the 275-pound class.
Led by head coach Corey Bordelon, the team continues to embrace a “hungry and humble” mentality as it prepares for South Regionals in Covington on February 21.
