In Their Sons’ Shoes

From orientation sessions to a mini-schedule night, parents of incoming students navigated the school day firsthand to meet teachers and prepare for the year ahead.

Blue Jay parents got a taste of the daily Jesuit experience, beginning with a new parent orientation designed to help families confidently navigate the transition to high school. Parents heard from members of the administration about what they can expect throughout the year, from accessing technology portals and finding information about attendance and grades to supporting their sons as they adjust to new routines, responsibilities, and expectations.

The evening continued with parent mini-schedule night, when pre-freshman and freshman parents had the opportunity to experience a school day through their sons’ eyes. Parents traded their seats for the hallways as they followed their sons’ schedules from class to class. Moving through the same corridors and climbing the same stairwells, they got a firsthand look at the routines their sons are learning.

Like many students at the beginning of a new year, parents kept a close eye on the clock as they tried to make it to the next class on time. At each stop, parents also had the opportunity to hear from the teachers who will guide their sons throughout the year. Teachers offered a look at what parents can expect students to learn in their classrooms, including course topics, grading scales, major projects, and daily expectations. Parents also learned how they can reinforce those expectations at home and help their sons take ownership of their success in the classroom.

Together, the evening gave parents a meaningful glimpse into daily life at Carrollton & Banks and the partnership among students, teachers, and parents that will shape the year ahead. By the end, the parents could call their own first day of school a success. And, fortunately, not one received a PH.
