Peter Mansfield ’96 Receives U.S. District Court Judge Nomination

A presidential nomination to the federal bench caps more than two decades of public service for the longtime Assistant U.S. Attorney and Blue Jay parent.

Alumnus Peter Mansfield ’96 has received a presidential nomination to serve as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, marking another chapter in a career devoted to public service and the law.

Mansfield has served for more than two decades as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in New Orleans and currently serves as chief of the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana. He previously served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney and has built extensive experience in federal civil litigation and leadership. His service to the federal court has also included work on its Lawyer Disciplinary Committee.

After graduating from Jesuit, Mansfield earned his undergraduate degree from Franciscan University of Steubenville and his J.D. from Ave Maria School of Law in 2003. His continued connection to Carrollton & Banks has included helping strengthen the professional bonds among fellow Blue Jays. Most recently, Mansfield collaborated with the Jesuit Alumni Association to organize a Continuing Legal Education program for Jesuit alumni attorneys, bringing together hundreds of Blue Jay attorneys from across generations for professional formation centered on integrity and service.

Mansfield’s nomination was announced on Aug. 18, recognizing his more than 20 years of public service in the Eastern District of Louisiana. The nomination is subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate. If confirmed, Mansfield will become the third living Jesuit alumnus to serve as a federal judge, joining Brandon Long ’95 and Jay Zainey ’69.

Mansfield is also a Blue Jay parent of John Mansfield ’25. Through his professional service and continued involvement with the Blue Jay community, Mansfield reflects the lifelong mission shared by Jesuit alumni to serve as men for others.
