Jesuit’s state quarter-final game against Caddo Magnet (Shreveport) on Saturday, April 18, will be played at St. Paul’s in Covington. The opening face-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Seniors in every sport want their last regular-season game to be a memorable one. The Jesuit lacrosse team sent their seniors off in style.

In their regular season finale, the Blue Jays crushed Brother Rice (Chicago, IL), 14-2. The match was played on Thursday, April 9, at Muss Bertolino Stadium in Kenner.

Head coach Steve Krobert’s ’05 starting line-up included every healthy senior on his squad.

Cameron Guernsey, just back from an injury, scored four times and assisted on three other goals. Garrett Perez tallied three goals from his midfielder position. Long stick midfielder Robert Zazulak led the team in ground balls with seven. Billy McMahon scooped up six grounders from his face-off position while John Bradford picked up two. Tanner Burgess had four ground balls and two takeaways. Defender Paul Stapp had a takeaway and three ground balls. Goalie Eric Wright allowed just a single score. Other seniors who started the game were midfielders Michael Simon and Jerry Spencer. Defender Nick Green did not play due to injury.

Krobert, who was an assistant before becoming head coach in 2014-15, coached some of his seniors for three years. “The progress these guys have made in becoming leaders and young men is really quite special. This is a special group of kids who will be hard to replace.”

Junior Max Murret finished with three goals. Scoring one goal apiece were Josh Cvitanovich, Briggs Lucia, Noah Martin, and Dominic Sunseri.

The state playoffs are underway. The Blue Jays, who received a first-round bye for winning the south district, face Caddo Magnet (Shreveport) on Saturday, April 18, in a quarter-final game. The game will be played at St. Paul’s in Covington. The winner faces the winner of Brother Martin and St. Thomas More in the state semi-finals.

This year’s state championship weekend is scheduled for April 25 and 26 at Loyola Academy in Shreveport.

Jesuit earned three consecutive state titles by beating St. Paul’s in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
