The Jesuit lacrosse team crushed Caddo Magnet (Shreveport) on Saturday, April 18, 22-1. The match was played at St. Paul’s in Covington because the Jays were unable to find a dry field in the Crescent City.

Junior Max Murret had four goals and three assists while senior Cameron Guernsey tallied three goals and four assists to lead the offensive attack.

Briggs Lucia, Noah Martin, Garrett Perez, and Michael Simon had two goals apiece.

Single-goal scorers were Jacob Buuck, Bennett Faust, Parker Simoneaux, Dominic Sunseri, David Zazulak, Aiden Roberts and Michael Smart. Roberts, Smart, and Andrew Burnside are JV players who were promoted for the playoffs based on their performance in the regular season.

Junior goalie Rob Hinyub, who made four saves, played the first half. Senior Eric Wright played in quarters three and four.

Senior Billy McMahon picked up a whopping ten ground balls. Senior defender Paul Stapp got six. Stapp and Gray Cressy logged two takeaways each.

The Blue Jays face St. Thomas More on Saturday, April 25, in a state semi-final contest. The winner will face the winner of the other semi-final game — St. Paul’s vs. Byrd (Shreveport).

Both matches will be played at Lee-Hedges Stadium in Shreveport. Opening face-off for the Jesuit-STM game is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The state championship game is Sunday, April 26, at 1 p.m.

Jesuit defeated St. Paul’s to win lacrosse state championships in 20122013, and 2014.
