The Blue Jays hit the scoreboard first and kept their lead until a nail-biting end to take the 33-30 win over the Purple Knights on the road Friday, Jan. 30. The Jays stayed focused in front of a raucous crowd in the St. Augustine gym to improve their District 9-5A record 3-2 and break the Knight’s winning streak.

Jesuit (12-5, 3-2) struggled offensively and counted on a strong defensive effort led by seniors Paul Kohnke and Foster Moreau to keep the Knights at bay. Case in point: in the second quarter, only one total point scored by the two teams combined — that was by the Purple Knights (19-5, 4-1). The Knights tried to take advantage of the Jay’s shooting only 7-of-18 from the line up through the third quarter. But the Jays came through at the line in the final two minutes to secure the win.

Next up, the Jays will host Shaw in the Birdcage on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. Both teams are coming off a Friday victory, as Shaw  (10-13, 1-3) posted its first district win over Brother Martin (17-7, 2-2), 71-70.
