Ticket, Pep Rally, Parking, and Broadcast Info for Friday’s Football Championship Game

A 1978 football team reunion took place following the Jesuit – Pensacola game in late September. Head Coach Mark Songy welcomed Lenny Quick ’79 (second from left), Benny Baptiste ’81 (who played on the ’78 team and is now an assistant defensive coach on the current Jesuit squad), and Billy Murphy, who was head coach of the ’78 Blue Jay team that lost to St. Aug., 13-7, in the championship game. Coach Murphy will be the featured speaker at Thursday evening’s Pep Rally in the gym for the Jesuit Community. Lenny Quick was one of the captains on the 1978 team.

The LHSAA Division I State Championship Game featuring Jesuit and John Curtis is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5 at 8:30 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Jesuit fans attending the game are asked to sit on the River side (Gate C, Champions Square) of the Superdome. The Blue Jays are the visiting team

Students have declared the game a “White Out,” meaning they will  be dressed in white shirts. They have requested that all Blue Jay fans consider doing the same.

Tickets

A limited number of tickets for Friday’s game are on sale at the Jesuit switchboard on Banks Street. General admission tickets are $13 and will be available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Tuesday and Wednesday between 5:30 and 7 p.m. Jesuit will sell its allotment of tickets until they are sold out. Jesuit does not foresee selling tickets on Friday. 

Tickets prices are set by the LHSAA. Fans may purchase tickets on Friday (Gameday) at the main Superdome Box Office on Poydras where general admission tickets are $16 and reserved seats in the Loge section are $19. A “facility fee” of 50 cents is added to each ticket purchased. One ticket will allow the fan access to all four games on Friday.

Pep Rally

Jesuit will host a Pep Rally in the gym on Thursday, Dec. 4. The event will start at 7 p.m. All members of the Jesuit community, including students, parents, parents of alumni, and alumni and their families, are invited and encouraged to attend.

“I’m really hoping our alumni bring their families, especially their children, to see what Blue Jay Spirit is all about,” said athletic Dave Moreau.

The featured speaker will be Billy Murphy, who coached the last Blue Jay football team that played in the state championship game in 1978. The Blue Jay Marching Band, Jayettes, and Cheerleaders will all be there to welcome our 2014 team.

If the weather remains dry, parking will be allowed on Will Clark Field located directly behind the school.

Game Day Parking

Parking is available at the Superdome for $10. Parking will also be available at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Tulane Avenue for $5 (GPS: 472 S. Roman St., New Orleans, LA).

Jesuit fans should be aware of items they cannot bring inside the Superdome. (Click on Prohibited Items). Also, please check for Superdome bag restrictions.

Radio & Television

The Division I Championship Game will be broadcast live on WGSO 990 AM radio. The pre-game show begins at 8:05 p.m. Kick-off is set for 8:30. Danny Riehm ’00 will handle the play-by-play duties, while Nick Nolfe provides analysis. Coach Nolfe is a former member of the varsity football coaching staff, who now coaches at the sub-varsity level. The broadcast will also include reports from the Blue Jay sideline. Listen live online.

Fox Sports New Orleans television will air the game on a tape-delayed basis on Monday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
