Senior Team Wins Intramural Basketball Tournament
In the final intramural basketball game of the 2014 spring semester, a team of seniors defeated a team of juniors with a tie-breaking foul shot in overtime play in the birdcage on Thursday, March 27.
The senior team went by the moniker “Channel 4 News Team,” while the junior team was known as “Greased Lightning.” Both were undefeated as they entered the finals.
Playing for the Channel 4 News Team were: Will Myers, Sean Dobies, Will Dufour, Andrew Collins, Zach Jones, Kevin Mickan, Evan Wolff, Andrew Martin, Luke Hahn, and Andrew Tufts. The team had some help from a vocal coaching staff comprised of seniors Cosimo Tomba, Nicky Charles, Chris Dupré, and Roy Messina.
Playing for Greased Lightening were: Jordan Crane, Leland Flynn, Dylan Knight, Sam Stallings, Blake Abadie, and Justin Helm.
Guest official and assistant basketball coach Wesley Laurendine served as the championship game official. All other tournament games are officiated by student referees. Alumni Service Corps member Taylor Bacques ’09 also assisted with supervision and organization for the basketball league.
The road to the finals was not easy. The season began in late September, with three pools of 19 teams playing four games in each pool. The top three finishers in each pool went on to a seeded single-elimination tournament.
Along with the glory of the win, players on the senior team will be awarded intramural champion t-shirts and be recognized at an upcoming Morning Assembly.
Meanwhile, the games continue for underclassmen as the sophomore/freshmen and pre-freshman grade divisions are still in their regular season. The sophomore/freshman division is made up of 24 teams, while the pre-freshman division has 10 teams. Games are played daily during lunch. The winners of those divisions will also receive championship t-shirts and be recognized at an assembly.
