Jesuit-based Retif Oil will play Brother Martin-based Peake BMW on Tuesday, July 1 at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium with the winner taking the jackpot of the American Legion District 1 Championship. First pitch is 2 p.m.

Peake BMW forced Tuesday afternoon’s game by defeating Retif Oil, 6-5, on Monday evening at Kirsch-Rooney. It was Retif’s first loss in the double elimination tournament and effectively kept Peake on the road to the championship, if not in the driver’s seat.

Retif was down 6-4 in the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded, no outs, and two men on, when Scott Crabtree drilled a ball 365 feet to right-center field. Unfortunately, the fence was 370 feet away. Retif did manage to punch across one run in the inning, but it wasn’t enough and Peake forced a winner-take-all championship game.

The winner of Tuesday’s game moves on to play in the American Legion’s City Series, which begins this weekend.
