At the 2013 Pre-Freshman Retreat, Zach Adams ’14 (left, in blue shirt) leads a discussion group of pre-freshmen.

Pre-freshmen will have their first opportunity to invest in their religious formation at Jesuit when they attend the Pre-Freshman Retreat on Saturday, Aug. 23. Previously known as the 8th Grade Night of Reflection, this retreat allows students to reflect on where God is calling them in their lives as men of faith and men for others. They will have the opportunity to continue this spiritual growth at similar retreats each year during their time at Jesuit. The talks given by upperclassmen at this event focus on the conversion of St. Ignatius in the castle of Loyola, where he sat admiring the lives of Jesus and the saints and dreaming about what his life could be if he were to follow their example. Students are invited to do the very same thing, inviting Jesus into their lives of discipleship while at Jesuit.

Pre-Freshman Retreat
Saturday, August 23, 2014
2 – 8 p.m.

Pre-Freshmen should arrive at Jesuit between 1:30 and 2 p.m. and report to the side lobby of the auditorium (which can be accessed from the school yard). Pre-freshmen will sit together according to theology classes in the front of the auditorium. Faculty and upperclassmen will be on hand to instruct them where to sit.

Dress Code & Behavior

Dress for the night of reflection is casual, but respectful: jeans or decent shorts, pullover shirt or presentable T-shirt (no T-shirts advertising liquor or bearing suggestive messages), and tennis shoes are all acceptable. Basically, the young men should wear something that would be acceptable at a casual family function. Cell phones are not allowed at the Pre-Freshman Retreat. A pizza dinner will be provided during the evening. This night of reflection is a required Jesuit school function; thus all school rules of conduct apply.

Pick-up Procedures

Parents should plan to pick up their sons in the schoolyard at 8 p.m., entering the yard via the Banks Street entrance. Students will not be allowed out onto the street outside the school building to ensure faculty supervision of all students until they are picked up.
