In the second week of Friday Lenten activities at lunch, students turned out for the weekly Adoration and Benediction services on Friday, March 28. The Pretzel Fast last week focused on the pillar of fasting as a Lenten discipline, while the activity for this week encouraged students to spend time in prayer, in imitation of Jesus’ own life of prayer with the Father.

Beginning at the second half of lunch, students from all grade levels gathered before the Blessed Sacrament in the Holy Name of Jesus Chapel for silent worship and the singing of Eucharistic hymns. The students sang the “Pange Lingua” and the “Adoro Te Devote” in their English translations, which are hymns composed by St. Thomas Aquinas to be sung before the Eucharist. At the end of lunch, the students participated in the prayers Benediction, led by Fr. Donald Saunders, S.J., the school chaplain.

The series of Lenten activities will be rounded out by next a championship game of the Fifa Tournament, an XBox soccer tournament hosted by the Sodality, on Friday, April 4 and a Live Auction for prizes, offered by the faculty and hosted by the Columbian Squires on Friday, April 11. The proceeds for both events will be donated to the Mission Drive.
