Jesuit Swimming Takes Second in 2014 State Championship
Three Blue Jays won individual titles at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Swim Meet on Saturday, Nov. 22, helping lead Jesuit to a second place finish. Catholic High School of Baton Rouge won the Division I bracket with a team score of 416, just 28 points ahead of the Blue Jays.
Senior Chris Simmons won the 50-yard free, senior Michael Conrad won the 500-yard free. and junior Cade Fuxan finished first in the 100-yard fly. The team of seniors Francis Plough, Sam Johnson, Chris Simmons, and junior Cade Fuxan won the 200-yard medley relay. The Jays finished just .19 ahead of the Catholic Bears.
After the meet, head coach Bret Hanemann ’85 applauded the effort of both squads. “You couldn’t ask for any more from either team. When everybody swims their best times and you you leave everything in the pool, there’s nothing more you can ask.” Mr. Hanemann is assisted by coach Tre’ Roux ’87.
It was the third state title for Catholic in four years. Jesuit has won 37 of the last 41 state championships.
