Jesuit Quiz Bowl Teams Take Top Honors at State NAQT Championships

QuizBowl_20140329_NAQT-State_002webJesuit’s quiz bowl teams defended their State National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) title at Tulane University on March 29. Two teams from Jesuit competed and swept the tournament, going undefeated until the Blue Jays faced-off in the final round to claim first and second place.

Team A composed of senior Ian Calamari, senior Stanley Dai, junior Brett Loria, junior Sam Zelden and senior captain Kevin Yokum went undefeated to take first place. Yokum was also awarded as the tournament’s MVP.

The all-sophomore Team B composed of captain Andrew Cerise, Mayank Mardia, Stephen Owers and Anthony Stoner played as a varsity team and also went undefeated until the final round.

The Blue Jays beat teams from Lusher, Ben Franklin, Lafayette, Dominican, Chapelle, West Monroe, Thomas Jefferson, Mt. Carmel, Shaw, Rummel, and Itawamba to claim their titles.
