Four district games remain on the Blue Jays’ 2014 varsity schedule, but the most important contest is always against the next opponent. For Jesuit, that happens to be Brother Martin on Wednesday, April 16. The Crusaders host the Jays at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium with first pitch at 7 p.m.
Students and faculty will be admitted with school IDs and season passes will be accepted. Admission for adults is $5 and $3 for children (6-11). The game will be streamed live online at www.sportsnola.com and also will be broadcast on WHNO-TV 20 Thursday, April 17 at 8 p.m.
In the two rivals’ first round game at John Ryan Stadium on March 31, Jesuit shut out the Crusaders, 1-0. The Jays are currently 23-4 overall and 5-1 in district play. The Jays must be patient at the plate and harness all their power hitting (which is potent, indeed), while playing smart, error-free, heads-up defense. The Jays’ pitching must focus on location, location, location.
Since experiencing its first district loss last week to Archbishop Shaw, Jesuit was unstoppable two days later against Holy Cross. The Jays dispensed the Tigers in five innings, 13-2. Last Saturday, April 12, Jesuit hosted St. Louis Catholic (Lake Charles), a scrappy team in District 3A, in a non-district double-header at the Ryan. The Jays won both games, 10-6 and 4-1.
After Brother Martin, the Jays play their remaining three district games at home at the Ryan, beginning Saturday, April 19 against Archbishop Rummel at 2 p.m. On Monday, April 21, the Jays welcome the Purple Knights to the Ryan for a 4 p.m. game. And on Wednesday, April 23 at 7 p.m., the Blue Jays will face West Bank rival Shaw with an opportunity to even it up.
Come on out and support the Blue Jays as they wind down their regular season!
