Jesuit basketball will begin play in the 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO High School Tournament on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Birdcage facing Newman. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students.

The tournament will take place Wednesday, Dec. 3 through Saturday, Dec. 6 at four different local high schools—Jesuit, Holy Cross, Brother Martin, and Hannan. Jesuit will play in the quarterfinal match at Holy Cross on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Friday’s semifinal games will be held at Jesuit. The finals will take place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Brother Martin. 

Schools scheduled to participate include Brother Martin, Covington, De La Salle, East St. John, Hahnville, Hannan, Holy Cross, Jesuit, John Curtis, Newman, Rummel, St. Augustine, St. Paul’s, St. Stanislaus, St. Thomas Aquinas and Shaw.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl took on sponsorship of the New Orleans CYO High School Tournament in 2008. The event will celebrate its 61st year of action in 2014 (Dec. 3-6, 2014).

The 2013 event featured a total of 16 boys’ high school teams competing in 30 basketball games at five different locations (Brother Martin, Jesuit, Rummel, Hannan, Holy Cross) with East Jefferson High School winning its first title since 1993, defeating Brother Martin, 55-45 in the championship.
