Jays Win 3 of 4 Games Played in WGNO Classic
The Blue Jays won three of four games played in the inaugural WGNO Classic. Two of the games won ended early because of the 10-run rule.
In addition to the 2-0 shutout over St. Thomas More in the opening game Thursday night (played at John Ryan Stadium because Segnette Field was wet), the Jays whipped Franklinton, 11-1, in a Friday night game called after five innings. James Licciardi struck out four batters and was the winning pitcher, although he had some help from Myles Blount who closed the game.
Blake Baker, Trent Forshag, Nick Ray, Alex Galy, and Clayton Deron each had two hits and Harrison Daste drove in 3 runs with a double.
On Saturday, March 2, the Jays had a double-header at newly refurbished Wesley-Barrow Stadium. The first game against West Ouachita was a pitcher’s duel with Jesuit’s Glynn Hyer displaying some fine throwing. Spencer Miller and Dan Edmund each had two hits. The Jays, however, stranded eight batters on bases and could not score a run. It’s been a long time since the Jays to another team by a score of 1-0.
The second half of the double-header was a much easier game for the Jays who routed Ruston, 10-0 in five innings. C.J. Avrard pitched a complete game and had three strikeouts. Trent Forshag and Stephen Sigle had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Blake Baker, Scott Crabtree (double and triple), and Brandon Sequeira each had two hits.
