Blue Jays had numerous opportunities to score against Holy Cross, but could manage only two goals.

Jays and Crusaders Will Tangle on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Noon at John Ryan Stadium

The Blue Jays waited until just under five minutes remaining in the first half to score their first of two goals against Holy Cross in a district soccer match on Wednesday evening, Jan. 8 at John Ryan Stadium. Maybe it was the cold weather, but the Jays had plenty of opportunities to score. The ball just would not fall into the Tigers’ net. Except for two which was all Jesuit needed.

Seniors Luke Hahn and Kyle Holzman each scored to give the Jays a 2-0 win over Holy Cross, a game that might have served as a timely tune-up for the big one against Brother Martin on Saturday, Jan. 11. The starting time of the match has been moved up to noon to avoid conflicting with the Saints-Seahawks playoff game later that afternoon.

Admission is free for Jesuit and Brother Martin students, faculty, and staff with valid school IDs; $5 for adults and $3 for children under age 12.

Against the Tigers, the Jays held on to their narrow 1-0 lead until 3:30 remained in the game when Holzman kicked a rocket into the Tigers’ net to put the Jays up, 2-zip. Jesuit’s senior goalie, Nick Tadros, touched the ball maybe six times the entire night as the Tigers never had a shot on goal.

When the fifth-ranked Blue Jays play the third-ranked Crusaders on Saturday, Tadros will undoubtedly be a much busier goalie.
