Jays Hosting 3rd Annual Invitational Tournament at John Ryan Stadium
The 3rd annual Jesuit Invitational Tournament featuring 10 teams is underway at John Ryan and Kirsch-Rooney Stadiums this weekend.
Jesuit plays a double header Friday, March 7, although in between games, two other teams will take to Alumni Field at John Ryan Stadium.
Jesuit plays West Feliciana High School at 1:30 p.m. today (Friday) followed by a 5:30 p.m. engagement with Byrd High School. Senior right-hander Christian Latino starts on the mound for the Jays against West Feliciana while senior Brandon Sequeira, also a right-hander, is scheduled to pitch against Byrd High.
The tournament began Thursday, March 6 with five games played at John Ryan Stadium between 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. Jesuit did not play on Thursday. While most teams have four games on their schedule, Jesuit, West Feliciana, and McMain High School will each play only three games. This is due to one team recently deciding not to play in the tournament. Kirsch-Rooney Stadium is also being used this evening for games.
On Saturday, March 8, Jesuit plays its third and final game of the tournament against Mandeville High School. First pitch for that game is 5:30 p.m. at John Ryan Stadium.
Other teams playing in Jesuit’s tourney are: St. Augustine, Archbishop Shaw, Archbishop Rummel, Brother Martin, and Hahnville.
It will be the second time this week that the Jays and Skippers are playing each other. Last Monday, March 2, the Jays traveled to the Northshore to play the Skippers on their home field. Jesuit had smooth sailing and won, 9-1. The winning pitcher was sophomore Mason Mayfield, who threw four innings, striking out six batters. Mayfield, a right-hander, was relieved by Christian Latino for two innings and senior southpaw Zach Jones for one inning.
Senior Spencer Miller had three hits, including a double, while junior Alex Galy had two hits, including a double. Senior Blake Baker also had two hits and junior Trent Forshag had three runs batted in.
