It’s the 47th annual Clash of the Titans: the Jays and the Purple Knights of St. Augustine. With the Purple Knights leading the series, 24-23, the Jays hope to even it up.

Both teams close their regular season schedule against each other on Friday, November 7, at Tad Gormley Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Jesuit will be on the home side (entrance on Marconi Blvd.).

On defense, the Jays are blessed with talented players, including Dillon Knight (28), Mark Beebe (22), Jakirai Wiley (4), and a host of others who can't be seen in the pile-up.

The Jays (7-2) are not only looking to notch win number 8, but also to avenge a pair of defeats at the hands of the Purple Knights, who last year ripped Jesuit twice — during the regular season, 34-14, and again in the second week of the playoffs, 54-38.

The Jays are coming off a thrilling 17-14 win over previously undefeated Brother Martin and hope the momentum from that game carries over to their meeting with St. Aug. The Purple Knights are 4-4 and coming off a 15-14 last-minute win over Archbishop Shaw. Ironically, Jesuit fans will be pulling for the Crusaders to upset Archbishop Rummel on Saturday afternoon. If that happens, Jesuit, Brother Martin, and Rummel will share the District 9-5A title.

“Coming off the battles we’ve been in, we are as prepared as we can be to face St Augustine,” said Coach Mark Songy. “Our players have had a great week of preparation in getting ready to face the many challenges that St. Augustine presents. We really need to continue to play defense as well as we have lately, and our offense really needs to step up and get back on a more consistent track. I’m very happy with our approach to our preparation, and I know that we will play as hard as we are known to play.”

Tickets for the Jesuit – St. Augustine game are available Friday at the switchboard (entrance on Banks Street) from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The pre-game tickets are $6 each ($3 for children ages 6-11) and will also be available in the Student Commons during the lunch hour. Admission at the gate is $8 for adults and children. Since this is a district game, students will be admitted with their school IDs.

The Jesuit baseball community will be tailgating outside the stadium near the Marconi entrance beginning at 4 p.m.
