Blue Jays Reach Semifinals in Rain-Delayed State Tennis Tournament

Jesuit’s varsity tennis successfully reached the semifinals after posting strong wins in the first two rounds and quarterfinals of the LHSAA division 1 state tennis tournament in Monroe. The tournament, scheduled for April 28-29, began five hours late on Monday due to inclement weather.
Competing in the state tournament for Jesuit are two singles and three doubles teams. Both singles players are seeded—senior Jordan Lacoste (1) and junior Alex Depascual (5) —and two of Jesuit’s three doubles teams competing in the state tournament are seeded—sophomores Jacob and Jonathan Niehaus (2), junior Gregory Suhor/sophomore Brandon Beck (5), and seniors Kevin Mickan/Andrew Tufts.
All eight Blue Jays made it to quarterfinals, each player and doubles team besting their opponent in two sets. In the quarterfinals, some noteworthy victories in quarterfinals: Jordan Lacoste took out Catholic’s No. 1 singles player, 6-3, 6-2; Kevin Mickan/Andrew Tufts won over Byrd’s top team, 6-2, 6-1; and Gregory Suhor/Brandon Beck defeated the No. 1 seeds from St. Paul’s, 6-1, 6-2. Alex Depascual took a hit, 6-3, 6-2, to Mandeville.
Play will continue into Wednesday, April 30 to determine the state champions.
