Jesuit Faces Toughest Test of 2014 Season When the Crusaders Visit the Ryan on Monday, March 31.

Jesuit scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to sneak past the Warriors of St. Michael’s (Baton Rouge), 4-3, on Saturday afternoon, March 29, at John Ryan Stadium.

The Jays scored a run in the first and the second inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Senior James Licciardi pitched the first three innings and was relieved by Mason Mayfield who pitched 2 1/3 innings. The Warriors scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning and they were charged to Mayfield. However, only one of the runs was earned due to an outfield error.

Senior Christian Latino (3-0) was the winning pitcher. He entered the game with one out in the sixth inning and he struck out two batters in pitching 1 2/3 innings.

Junior Alex Galy (SS) was the only Blue Jay with two hits, both singles. Junior Trent Forshag (C) and senior Stephen Sigle each swatted a double.

With the game tied at 3-3 after the top of the seventh, the Jays needed some magic to happen in the bottom of the inning, and it didn’t take long. Senior Brandon Sequeira (3B) was hit by a pitch, then advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by senior Blake Baker (2B). Galy hit his second single of the game and it was all over when Sequeira crossed the plate with the winning run.

The Blue Jays are 16-3 (1-0 in district play) going into Monday evening’s (March 31) game against Brother Martin at John Ryan Stadium. First pitch is 6 p.m. The two teams were originally scheduled to play Friday, March 28 at the Ryan, but torrential rain and thunderstorms occurred all day, and personnel from both schools wisely agreed to postpone the game until Monday.
