Career Day 2014 provided today’s Jays an opportunity to think seriously about the career path that lay ahead of them. Providing practical advice based on their own experiences were 31 guest speakers, 29 alumni and two guests. Seniors and juniors chose two career talks from a menu of 26 different careers. New offerings this year were careers in the film industry with Henry Griffin ’87 providing the advice and careers in medical support (physician assistant, nursing, etc.) with Arden Ballard ’02 speaking. View photos from the event.

Sophomores, freshmen, and pre-freshmen assembled in the auditorium to hear from Rene Louapre ’00 about career paths in general, using his own inspiring path as an example. Louapre juggles his day job, attorney with the in-house compliance team at Ochsner Health System, with blogging about the food culture in New Orleans and planning the charitable event Hogs for the Cause (with his buddy and co-founder Becker Hall ’97). Louapre told the underclassmen, “A little bit of mischievousness is good. It leads to curiosity which in turn fuels creativity. The result just might be accomplishment and happiness.”

Career Day is a joint effort of Jesuit’s guidance and advancement offices.
