When this photo was taken at 7:23 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, the queue of Jesuit parents and their Blue Jays waiting for the start of the 2013 Used Books Sale already bulged and snaked around the perimeters of the Hall of Champions. But once the annual sales event began, the crowd melted as fast as ice cubes on the Jesuit roof.

Initial reports have Jesuit parents saving a whopping $50,000-plus by purchasing second-hand texts for their sons at the 2013 Used Books Sale, which took place on Wednesday, August 7 in the Hall of Champions.

The Used Books Sale offers opportunities for many parents to cash in on both ends. By recycling their sons’ texts for the next crop of students, parents are able to reclaim half the price they paid if the books were newly purchased the year before. At the same time, parents of new Blue Jays as well as returning students are often able to buy the texts required for their classes at a 50% discount. All of the used books are in good to excellent condition.

The Used Books Sale is an annual event organized by a dedicated group of parent volunteers led by Georgeann Dufour. It’s purpose is simple: to save Jesuit parents as much money as possible on the increasing costs of text books.
