Blue Jays’ 2013 Season Ends with a 27-9 Overall Record
The 2013 baseball season came crashing down hard on the Blue Jays who traveled to Baton Rouge on Monday, May 6 to play Catholic High in an LHSAA regional playoff game. The fifth seeded Jays started with a bang, scoring two runs in the first inning when senior first baseman Dylan Weston doubled into center field.
But Jesuit gave it right back in the bottom of the first as Catholic High, seeded 21st, took advantage of two miscues and scored a pair of runs to tie the game. The Blue Jays had only five hits to the Bears’ nine. Junior Blake Baker hit two singles. Jesuit’s senior pitcher C.J. Avrard took the loss. Also pitching were seniors Brett Leonhard and Andrew Mitchell.
“We made some costly errors and then the mental lapses set in,” said head coach Joey Latino. “Catholic High beat us, but we also gave them a big gift-wrapped package.”
