Road closures for the construction project on Banks Street (from Carrollton Avenue to St. Patrick Street) have begun. Repairs include resurfacing, pavement patching, curb repair, and installation of ADA-compliant accessible ramps at corners.

Construction for the entire project, which also includes repairs on Jefferson Davis Parkway and Bienville Street, is expected to be complete by March 2014.

While construction is in progress, one lane in each direction will remain open to traffic. The work will be divided into two phases – the first will see work crews breaking up the top 2-inches of the existing asphalt surface and installing ADA-compliant ramps. After that, roads will remain open and in that condition for approximately two weeks, before the final phase that includes resurfacing of the street.

Unless otherwise indicated, entrance to the school yard will continue to be from Banks Street. However, parents and students arriving on campus should expect changing traffic conditions, construction signs, traffic barrels, and men holding flags. Please follow all construction crew signs and directions. When No Parking signs are displayed, please use the Banks Street or school yard parking lots. Violators will be towed so that crews can continue their work.

The improvements come thanks to the Paths to Progress program, a state and federal initiative to restore Jefferson and Orleans parish roadways.
