Retif Oil rebounded from the Gauthier & Amedee come-from-behind win on Saturday with a crushing 11-1 victory against  Townsend Homes (St. Charles Catholic) on Sunday, July 14, 2013. Returning to Kirsch-Rooney Stadium early  Sunday morning, Retif not only faced an elimination game from the American Legion Southeast Regional Tournament, but also faced a game, if lost, that would end its 2013 summer season.

Retif started early in the first scoring an unearned run from an errant throw.After Townsend Homes responded with a score to tie the game, Retif broke the tie in the third and never looked backed.

In the top of the fourth, Retif exploded scoring eight runs. Right fielder  Nathan Zimmer  ’14 led off the offensive surge by getting on the first from a throwing error. Then, Mitch Alexander ’13 and Blake Baker ’14 singled on bunts to load the bases. As Dylan Weston ’14 stepped up to the plate, he sent a line drive to left field for an RBI single. Townsend Homes pitcher would walk in two more runs to.  Steven Sigle ’14 sacrificed to center before Ben Hess ’15 and Brandon Sequeira ’14 singled to the outfield.  Sequeira recorded an RBI on his single to left field. After another two walks for the Townsend pitcher,  Blake Baker ’14 returned to the plate for an RBI  single to cushion the lead to 10-1.

In the eighth inning Retif scored its final run to end the elimination game with the 10-run mercy rule.  Retif Oil pitcher Brett Leonhand ’13 (6-2) pitched seven innings before Christian Latino ’14 took control in the in the final inning and ended the Townsend Homes season. Leonhand struck out six batters, allowing one run, in the first, on two hits.
Retif Oil will face another elimination game against Shaw-based Refuel on Monday, July 15, 2013 after the Otto Candies – HK Tors game at 1:30 p.m. If Retif Oil beats Refuel on Monday, Retif will earn a playoff berth in the American Legion State Tournament in Sulphur, LA.
