Defending American Legion World Series Champions Knocked Out of State Tournament by the River Ridge Patriots, 7-6

Retif Oil fell to the River Ridge Patriots, 7-6, in the 15th inning of the American Legion State Tournament at McMurry Park in Sulphur, ending the team’s season.

The game started strong with each team scoring three runs apiece in the first inning.

Blake Baker helped Retif to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI-single. But heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Patriots bounced back, tying the game. Six more innings of a stalemate followed before the Patriots rallied to win the game.

First baseman Dylan Weston ’13 was the leading hitter for Retif throughout the tournament. Retif finished its 2013 season with a 26-12 record, capturing the runner-up titles in District and the Southeast Regional Tournaments.
