Blue Jay Swimmers display their LHSAA State Runner-up Trophy
Blue Jay swimmers posted strong individual race times in the LHSAA Division 1 State Championship meet held Nov. 22-23. Even with these impressive results, the defending state championship team finished as the runner-up with 301 points to Catholic High’s 463. 50.
Individuals placing in the top of their races include junior Chris Simmons who took second in the 100 yard freestyle and junior Michael Conrad who took third in the 500 yard freestyle.
Jesuit’s relay teams also earned high marks. The team of juniors Francis Plough and Patrick Cecola and seniors Blake Robert and Brett Dipuma took second in the 200 yard medley relay; the young team of freshman Jack Jackson, sophomore Cade Fuxan, and juniors Patrick Cecola and Chris Simmons took third in the 200 yard freestyle relay; and the team of freshman Jack Jackson and juniors Michael Conrad, Francis Plough, and Chris Simmons took second in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
Coach Bret Hanemann ’85 says while Blue Jays swam well, Catholic swam an outstanding meet. Jesuit brought a relatively young team of swimmers who trailed behind the top seeds. He looks forward to competing for the title again next year.
