In Foz, the World Youth Day group was treated to its first Brazilian style dinner, which was a great way to raise spirits for night-time prayer and opening reflections in small groups.

The WYD pilgrims arrived in Sao Paulo in the early morning on Monday, July 15, 2013 after a long over-night flight. The group traveled to the Pateo do Colegio, a museum constructed to preserve the memory of the early foundation of Sao Paulo. The three groups (Jesuit New Orleans, Jesuit Tampa, and Brophy Prep) gathered together in the chapel at the Colegio for our opening pilgrimage Mass. After stopping for photos in front of the Neo-Gothic cathedral in the main square, the group left for Foz do IguaƧu.

Tuesday will bring a bus ride across the Paraguayan border and a long afternoon hike to approach the first pilgrimage reduction, Trinidad.
