Soccer Jays Christen John Ryan Stadium with a 1-0 Win Over a Tough Gulfport Team
Jesuit’s varsity soccer team opens its 2012-13 District season on Wednesday (December 5) against the Grace King Irish. The Jays will travel to Metairie to play the Irish on their own field. The match kicks off at 3:30 p.m.
On Friday (December 7), Jesuit hops a bus to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for a rematch against the Admirals of Gulfport. When the two teams met the first time on November 27, it marked the first varsity soccer game Jesuit played at John Ryan Stadium. The first 40 minutes of that match was not pretty, but the Jays escaped with a 1-0 win, and more importantly, with their pride intact.
Next week, Jesuit returns to John Ryan Stadium for two big district matches, first against Brother Martin on Tuesday, December 11 at 4:45 p.m., then Archbishop Rummel on Friday, December 14 at 6 p.m.

John Ryan Stadium hosted its first varsity soccer match when the Admirals of Gulfport High School traveled to New Orleans to take on the Blue Jays. John Ryan Stadium is one of the very few prep stadiums in the country with a field that can be adapted to accommodate five sports — soccer, lacrosse, rugby, (sub-varsity) football, AND baseball.
