Wizards of Welcome Week

In a competitive display of spirit, the student council—moderators John Kling ’17 and Jacob Campos ’13, assistant moderator Justin Genovese ’04, and the E-Board—hosted a “Jaywarts” themed welcome week for all students. At Monday’s assembly, student council president senior Spencer Waguespack took on the persona of “Jerry Potter” as he evaded the dark Lord determined to steal Jesuit’s Blue Jay spirit. Over the next several days, participants earned points for their houses by competing in a series of wizarding-inspired challenges.
The Triwizard Maze kicked off the festivities, sending teams through a winding course to claim a Kona Ice voucher at the finish line. During trivia, incorrect answers triggered an appearance in the dunking booth. On Will Clark Field, Quidditch matches unfolded with players wielding makeshift brooms and chasing tennis-ball “bludgers.” The finale, Wand Jousting, tested balance and strategy as students sparred with paint-filler roller wands.
Student spectators filled the courtyard during lunch each day, cheering on friends and tracking the daily standings. Student council members noted that Jaywarts week not only encouraged more house rivalry but also offered new students a glimpse of exciting Blue Jay student life.
