Second-Half Surge
A 45-yard touchdown run to open the third quarter sparked a dominant second half that held Chalmette to just 36 yards and one first down after the break.

The Blue Jays broke a halftime tie with a strong second-half performance to defeat the Chalmette Owls 24-7 on Thursday night at Bobby Nuss Stadium. The week 6 victory improved the Jays to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Catholic League play.
After falling behind 7-0 in the first half, junior quarterback Sully Sullivan connected with senior Hayes Mestayer on an 18-yard touchdown pass with just 29 seconds remaining before halftime to even the score.
The Jays wasted little time taking control after the break. Junior running back Michael Cerruti broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run on the second play of the third quarter, giving the Blue Jays their first lead of the night. Sophomore Cole Cascio added a 33-yard field goal later in the quarter before junior quarterback Mani Vandenweghe capped the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
The defense delivered an equally impressive second half, holding the Owls scoreless while allowing just 36 total yards and one first down. Offensively, the Jays finished with 213 rushing yards, led by Cerruti’s 87 yards on 13 carries. Sullivan added 130 passing yards, while Mestayer led the receiving corps with seven catches for 88 yards and a touchdown.
The Blue Jays return to action next Saturday against St. Augustine, looking to build on their second-half momentum and continue their push through district play.
