Track & field continued its championship run, capturing its fourth consecutive District 9-5A title behind a balanced performance across distance, hurdles, relays, and field events at Tad Gormley.

The Blue Jays were led by several first-place finishes, including senior Connor Fanberg’s wins in both the 800-meter run and 1,600-meter run. Fanberg finished the 800 in 1:58.00 before returning to win the 1,600 in 4:23.13, with Patrick Smith adding a runner-up finish in 4:27.92.

Junior Patrick Smith, Finn Connolly, sophomore Rhys Grant, and PJ Fitzmorris claimed the district championship in the 4×800. Meanwhile, juniors Ja’ir Burks and Caleb Frilot, along with seniors Connor Pilié and Drago Cvitanovich, set a school record with a time of 41.72 in the 4×100, earning second place at the district meet.

In the 3,200-meter run, junior David Quintana claimed first place with a time of 9:13.71, setting a new district meet record, while senior Nick Accardo placed fourth with a time of 9:33.22.

Burks delivered another standout performance, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 13.70 and the 300-meter hurdles in 37.76. Burks also tied for first place in the high jump with teammate Cvitanovich, clearing 5-10. Cvitanovich added a first-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 14-0, followed by Jude Cannon in second at 13-0.

In the field events, Oliver Hartman won the javelin with a throw of 170-4, senior Spencer Waguespack placed second in the shot put with a mark of 51-9.5, and seniors Tyler Oufnac and Zachary LaGraize added key points in the jumps. Oufnac finished second in the triple jump, while LaGraize placed third.

The Blue Jays’ head to the regional championships on Wednesday, April 29 at Hahnville.
