Junior Owen Truxillo Advances to National Level of the Pro-Life Oratory Contest

Junior Owen Truxillo has advanced to the national level of the Pro-Life Oratory Contest after earning first place at both the local and state competitions. Truxillo, an alumnus of St. Pius X and Christian Brothers, is the son of Dr. Ryan Truxillo ’96 and Theresa Truxillo.
To reach the national stage, Truxillo first competed against fellow students from across the region, delivering a 5–7 minute speech addressing key life issues. After winning at the local level, he advanced to the state competition in Baton Rouge, where top student speakers from throughout Louisiana presented their prepared orations as part of a statewide Catholic youth leadership event. With his state title, Truxillo now moves on to represent Louisiana at the National Right to Life Convention this summer in Washington, D.C., where he will compete against other state champions from across the country.
In his award-winning speech, Truxillo emphasized the inherent dignity of every human life, reminding audiences that “someone’s life isn’t valuable because they can run a fast mile, make a six-figure salary, or graduate top of their class. Life is valuable because we are all people—individuals who serve a purpose on this Earth and who contribute to society in our own ways.”
Reflecting on his role as a student speaker, Truxillo acknowledged both his limitations and his responsibility: “I am here to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. While I may not yet have the authority to change laws, what I can do is use my voice to change hearts.”
In addition to his success in the oratory contest, Truxillo is deeply involved in campus ministry and student life. He serves as assistant prefect of Sodality and is a member of the Pro-Life Club, Society of St. Joseph, St. John Berchmans Altar Serving Society, National Honor Society, and the Philelectic Society. He is also president of the Rock Climbing Club.
Beyond Jesuit, Truxillo is actively engaged in service and leadership within the community. He serves as president of St. Pius X CYO, is involved with Grace at the Green Light, and participates as a Teen Cross Ambassador.
