Commencement Luncheon

Held each year on Senior Day, Commencement Luncheon is the moment at which graduating Blue Jays are formally welcomed into the Jesuit Alumni Association. Jesuit’s principal and a prominent alumnus will address the seniors and gathered alumni. This year’s speaker is John “Chick” Schoen ’63.
Schoen was a graduate of the Jesuit Class of 1963. He was active in all intramural sports and was a member of the Golf Team. After Jesuit, he graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame and from the Tulane School of Law and the Tulane Graduate School of Business where he finished first in his class. He worked in his family’s business in New Orleans, Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, and then, in 1977, began a career in technology consulting that lasted forty-four years until his retirement in 2021.
In his consulting career, he advised state and federal government agencies and private sector clients. He was named Partner at Andersen Consulting in 1988. Schoen spent the last nineteen years of his career as Director of Global Systems Integrators at NetApp, a Silicon Valley technology firm. In that role he led teams working for clients across Asia, Europe and the Americas.
Since his retirement, Schoen has remained active in his “four pillars” of activity: Volunteering, Church/Family/Friends, Physical Activity, and “Learn New Things”. He spends considerable volunteer time with organizations that deliver physical, psychological, and spiritual help to trauma victims, one to victims in the Islamic world from Mauritania to Pakistan, and another which helps victims in the Dallas Metroplex. He is the Chair of Jesuit’s National Advisory Board.
