- Congratulation to the Freshman baseball team as they got their 6th and 7th victories in dominating fashion. On Friday at John Ryan Stadium, CJ Newsome was the winning pitcher as he and Jackson Cantrelle dominated on the mound holding Pope John Paul to just one run, and leading to an 11-1 run rule victory. Leading hitters were Garret Kruppe with a base clearing triple, Jackson Cantrelle and Rex Foti, while Reed Toscano scored two runs as well!!! On Saturday, The Jays traveled to Destrehan and manhandled the Wildcats also winning by the mercy rule 12-0. Cooper Ryan was the winning pitcher and Sean-Paul McCanery closed the game throwing the last two innings. Cantrelle, Ellis Broussard, Tyler Hensley, and Sebastian Leger all had key hits in the game.
- Congrats to the Jesuit golf team on their 19 stroke victory against Brother Martin on Tuesday at English Turn. Low rounds of the match were shot by Sophomore Brooks Blanchard and Freshmen Augustin Gros who both carded 1 under par 35s.
- The Quiz Bowl team recently competed in the LQBA State Championship Tournament. The team, captained by junior Grady Miles along with senior Elijah Perrien, junior Arthur Meade, and freshmen Henry Dimm and Finnegan Moore, captured 3rd place. Grady Miles was the 5th-highest-scoring individual at the tournament.
- Jesuit Mock Trial recently sent three teams to regional competition at the 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna. After two preliminary rounds, Jesuit’s all senior team of attorneys Ben Farmer, Christopher Juge, and Derek Moore, and witnesses, Grant Carroll, Everett Kramer, Paul Sparacello, and Isaac Uhlich, advanced to the final round. In an extremely close trial, the team fell to Haynes Academy. As regional runner up, the team still advances to the State Mock Trial tournament this Saturday in Shreveport. Jesuit’s other two teams of attorneys Mike Graugnard, Charles Juge, Jackson Lane, Parker Lilly, Liam Moore, Evan Morgan, and Vico Vignes, and witnesses, Miles Bradley, Matthew Brandner, Logan Clark, Brady Gilbert, Bryce Johns, Benjamin Keller, and William Stackpole, competed admirably but did not advance. In individual awards, Charles Juge tied for best attorney. And for the second year in a row, Isaac Uhlich tied for best witness. Congratulations.
- The Track and Field team had a strong performance at the Patrick Ruth relays with several top finishes across events. Oliver Hartman placed 2nd in the javelin, while Drago Cvitanovich secured 1st in the pole vault. The 4×800 relay team of David Quintana, Joe Accardo, Rhys Grant, and Connor Fanberg took 1st place. The distance medley relay (Colin Matherne, Sam Russo, Konnor Jenkins, and Wils LeBourgeois) and the sprint medley relay (Declan Albro, Rowan Gleason, Evan Morgan, and Dominic Mandina) both finished 3rd. Austin Henderson earned 2nd in the 1600, and the 4×100 relay team of Noah Alvendia, Michael Cerruti, Rowan Gleason, and Dominic Mandina also placed 2nd.
- In the St. Joseph’s meet, the team also performed well. Ja’ir Burks took 2nd in the 100m, while the 1600m was dominated by Patrick Smith (1st), Andrew Nimmo (2nd), Finn Connolly (3rd), and PJ Fitzmorris (4th). The relay teams excelled, with the 4×100 (Enzo Beaucoudray, Ja’ir Burks, Connor Pilie, Caleb Frilot) and 4×200 (Ja’ir, Drago, Caleb, Connor) both earning 1st place, while the 4×400 (Enzo, Drago, Finn Connolly, Patrick Smith) finished 2nd. In the field events, Spencer Waguespack placed 2nd in the shot put.
- Five Jesuit athletes traveled to New York City over the weekend to compete at the Nike Indoor National Championship against the best in the country. All 5 came back as All-Americans. Senior Connor Fanberg, Sophomore Rhys Grant, Senior Joe Accardo & Junior Patrick Smith finished 3rd in the 4x Mile setting school and Composite State Indoor Records in route to earning All American honors on Friday night. Not to be out done, Junior Ja’ir Burks qualified through the preliminary round Saturday morning with the 10th fastest qualifying time in the 60m hurdles. Then Sunday morning in the semifinal, clinched the 8th and final spot in the championship round Sunday afternoon. Burks rose to the occasion finishing 5th in the Final, earning his first All American honors, claiming another school record and the Composite State Indoor Record for the 60m hurdles. Connor Fanberg was also named as an All-Star in the final event of the weekend, a Distance Medley Relay pitting each State’s best against the stars from other States. Fanberg’s anchor leg performance sealed a 4th place finish for team Louisiana, earning him a 2nd All American honor. The weekend was monumental for Jesuit Track & Field and the most successful meet in school history. 6 All American Honors and 2 State Composite Records. An unbelievable weekend for our Blue Jay Track & Field Program.
