Track & Field Opens Season with Podium Finishes in Relay, Distance, and Field Events

Track & Field opened the outdoor season with strong performances, highlighted by relay victories, distance depth, and strong field-event results.
The Blue Jays enter the spring looking to build on last season’s success, when Track & Field finished state runner-up at the 2025 LHSAA Division I state championships and captured multiple individual titles.
The outdoor season began at the Patrick Ruth Memorial Relays at Joe Yenni Stadium, where the Jays showed early strength in the relay and distance events. The 4×800 relay team of seniors David Quintana, Joe Accardo, Connor Fanberg, and sophomore Rhys Grant captured first place, while several other Blue Jay relay teams earned podium finishes.
Track & Field continued its momentum at the St. Joseph’s Academy Alumnae Meet, highlighted by a sweep of the 1600 meters. Junior Patrick Smith led with the win, followed by junior Andrew Nimmo in second, senior Finn Connolly in third, and junior PJ Fitzmorris in fourth.
Sprint relays also produced strong results for the Jays, including victories in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. Field events contributed as well, with senior Drago Cvitanovich winning the pole vault and senior Spencer Waguespack and junior Oliver Hartman each recording second-place finishes in the throws.
With depth across distance, sprints, relays, and field events, the Blue Jays opened the outdoor season with strong early results as Track & Field begins the push toward returning to Baton Rouge for another shot at a championship.
