Blue Jays Open Season 8-0 Behind Balanced Team Effort

Baseball has stepped into the box with an impressive 8-0 start to the season, stringing together eight consecutive victories against a challenging schedule that has taken the Blue Jays across southeastern Louisiana and beyond.
The Blue Jays opened on the road against Mandeville, picking up a hard-fought 10-7 victory. Senior Gavin Palmisano powered the offense early with a two-run home run to center field, while senior Derek DeLatte added a solo shot to right field in the sixth inning. Senior Marshal Serio, junior Jackson Dugan, sophomore Jace DeLatte, senior Michael Brothers, and sophomore Logan Nelson each contributed hits, with Palmisano, DeLatte, and Brothers each driving in two runs. Senior Maes Martin started on the mound, allowing three hits and two runs over five innings while striking out four. Sophomore Austin Guedry handled six chances in the field as the Blue Jays drew nine walks, stole four bases, and played error-free baseball.
The Jays kept rolling the following day with a 10-3 win over Lakeshore. Senior Jacob Chan started before sophomore Harper Oncale delivered six strong innings in relief, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out three. Nelson led the offense with two hits, and Guedry drove in two runs from the seven hole. Brothers stole two of the team’s six stolen bases, and the Blue Jays turned three double plays in another clean defensive performance.
Traveling to Maestri Field to face Archbishop Hannan, the Blue Jays erupted for 11 runs in the fifth inning to pull away, 11-2. The decisive rally featured contributions from Brothers, senior Griffin Jeandron, Serio, DeLatte, Dugan, Guedry, and J. DeLatte. Guedry led the way going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in, while Serio, Dugan, and Guedry each collected two of the team’s ten hits. Junior Noah Casey followed starter Nelson on the mound with four and one-third innings of scoreless relief. The Blue Jays committed no errors throughout.
The Blue Jays then traveled to St. Paul’s for a matchup against Denham Springs and left with a 12-2 victory. Martin started, tossing four innings and striking out three, before senior Beau Matulewski added a clean inning of relief. Senior Joe Bosco and Nelson each collected two hits and hit back-to-back in the lineup, while senior Brennan Jeansonne led the team with three runs batted in. The Jays piled up ten hits and turned two double plays in another sound team effort.
Facing a back-and-forth contest at Covington High School, the Blue Jays outlasted St. Amant, 8-5, behind a strong performance from the bottom of the lineup. Dugan, Guedry, and J. DeLatte combined for seven of the team’s 11 hits. After falling behind 5-4 in the fifth inning, the Jays responded with a go-ahead sacrifice fly from Bosco and a two-run home run to left field by Nelson to take the lead for good. Dugan started on the mound before Matulewski delivered one and one-third innings of scoreless relief, and the Blue Jays played another game of error-free baseball throughout.
Back at John Ryan Stadium, the Blue Jays handled Terrebonne with a 10-1 victory. M. Serio put together a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with a double and two singles while playing a central role in a five-run sixth inning. Nelson tripled home two runs in that frame, and junior Calvin Magee was sharp on the mound, striking out five over four scoreless innings. Sophomore Harrison Serio followed with two clean innings in relief. The Blue Jays accumulated 14 hits in the game, with M. Serio and Nelson each collecting three, while the team added four stolen bases on the day.
Through the first eight games, the Blue Jays have shown a consistent formula: disciplined at-bats, strong pitching depth, sure-handed defense, and timely hitting throughout the lineup. The baseball team carries its undefeated 8-0 record into the next match-up this Friday, February 27 against Tioga with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
