Wrestling Pins the Win

After a tough 3-point district loss last week, the Blue Jays stepped onto the mat at Benson Arena determined to respond — and they did just that against Teurlings Catholic. Freshman Christian Wright (106) kicked off the night with a dominant tech fall to set the tone, and sophomore William Roniger (120) followed with a clutch 9–8 decision to keep Jesuit rolling. Senior Michael Barnett (126) delivered one of the evening’s biggest highlights, returning from injury and securing a first-period pin that ignited the arena. Juniors Gage Grilletta (138) added a 16–0 tech fall, while senior Christopher Stricker (157) and sophomores Charlie Montgomery (165) each contributed crucial victories — with Stricker earning a first-period pin and Montgomery a second-period pin that surged momentum back to the Jays. Senior Sean Timler (175) continued the run with a 9–1 major decision, and senior Quinn Anderson (190) added yet another first-period pin, widening the gap even further.
As the dual intensified, the Gizzard fueled the Jays through every big moment. The crowd erupted for pins from Barnett (126), Stricker (157), Montgomery (165), and Anderson (190), each one creating massive swings in team points. Seniors Conner Vargas (215) and sophomore Blake Diodene (285) battled hard in the closing stretch, helping Jesuit lock in a 41–28 victory over a tough Teurlings Catholic squad. It was a complete team effort powered a home atmosphere.
