Swimming Wins Metro Championship

The swim team won the Metro Championship on Saturday, November 8, at the GNOHSSL Metro Swimming Championships meet at Franco’s Athletic Club in Mandeville. Jesuit secured the boys’ team title with 359.5 points, finishing ahead of runner-up E.D. White, which had 342 points.
Leading the charge was senior Aidan Villars, who captured gold in two individual events. He earned an All-America consideration time in the 100-yard butterfly (49.16) and also won the 100-yard backstroke (51.91).
The victory was a testament to the team’s depth, with several other Blue Jays reaching the podium for key performances. The 200-yard medley relay team of senior Ben Breithaupt, junior Dillon Nguyen, and freshmen Liam Phan and Harrison Tschirn earned a second-place finish (1:40.90). The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Villars, Breithaupt, senior Grant Castillon, and sophomore Conor Samuels also placed second (1:29.36). Breithaupt secured an individual second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.43).

“A lot of my guys had practiced this morning and last night after the meet, and they still performed exceptionally well. I’m extremely proud of them. I can’t wait to see what my teammates do.” said team captain Castillon.
With the metro title secured, the team now has its sights set on a state championship after last year’s second-place finish. The state meet will take place Saturday, November 22 at SPAR in Sulphur.
