Ryan Chaix 25, the son of Lisa and Michael Chaix and an alumnus of St. Mary Magdalen school, earned the rank of Eagle Scout in May 2024. Eagle Scout is the highest achievement attainable in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America. Scouts BSA aims to develop leaders who cultivate a love of service through community volunteering, aligning closely with Jesuit’s cultivation of servant leadership as it forms Blue Jays into men for others.

To achieve the Eagle Scout rank, scouts must accumulate at least 21 merit badges in citizenship, family, personal responsibility, preparedness, physical fitness, and outdoor skills. Additionally they must plan, develop, and lead a service project—the Eagle Service Project—that demonstrates both leadership and a commitment to duty. After all requirements are fulfilled, scouts undergo it with a lengthy review process.

Chaix earned Eagle Scout rank after completing 43 merit badges, the National Outdoor Award for Camping, and the Complete Angler Award. For his Eagle service project, he led scouts in restoring the entrance garden at Thomas Jefferson Academy by planting 50 perennials and installing new mulch and irrigation.

At Jesuit, Chaix was a member of  the Fishing, Pro Life, Spanish, National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta clubs while also competing in cross country and track & field. He served as senior patrol leader of Troop 490 and participated in the St. Philip Neri Catholic Youth Organization. This fall, he will study mechanical engineering as a freshman at the University of Mississippi in the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence program.
