Junior Chase Carter, the son of Daniel and Amy Carter and an alumnus of St. Francis Xavier and Christian Brothers, earned the rank of Eagle Scout in December 2024. Eagle Scout is the highest achievement attainable in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America. Scouts BSA aims to develop leaders who cultivate a love of service through community volunteering, aligning closely with Jesuit’s cultivation of servant leadership as it forms Blue Jays into men for others.

To achieve the Eagle Scout rank, scouts must accumulate at least 21 merit badges in citizenship, family, personal responsibility, preparedness, physical fitness, and outdoor skills. Additionally they must plan, develop, and lead a service project—the Eagle Service Project—that demonstrates both leadership and a commitment to duty. After all requirements are fulfilled, scouts undergo it with a lengthy review process.

At Jesuit, Carter commands the MCJROTC armed drill team, serves on Color Guard Team 1, and fulfills the roles of battalion operations officer and cadet captain. Next year, he will become battalion commanding officer with the rank of cadet lieutenant colonel. He is also a member of the rugby team. Off campus, he volunteers at Grace at the Green Light and Second Harvest Food Bank, participates in statewide conservation projects, and sails as ship boatswain with Sea Scouts. He competes in hunting disciplines through the Youth Hunter Education Program. In scouting, he leads Troop 70 at St. Francis Xavier as senior patrol leader and, as a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, serves as lodge vice chief of administration after a term as lodge chief.

Carter achieved the prestigious rank after earning 24 badges. His Eagle Service Project is called “Grace of Knowledge.” Carter collected books and built a bookshelf for Grace and the Greenlight, an organization for the unhoused.

Although Carter is only a junior, he plans to attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy and pursue a degree in Maritime Transportation.
