Crescent City Sports to spotlight wrestling in live streams this week

NEW ORLEANS – Crescent City Sports’ live streaming coverage of high school sports shifts its focus to wrestling with a pair of events this week.

CCS will live stream the dual Wednesday night between top Division I contenders Brother Martin and Jesuit from the Blue Jays’ Benson Arena and the finals of the Catholic League tournament Saturday from Archbishop Rummel. CCS’ Ken Trahan and long-time wrestling coach Craig Ketelsen will describe the action.

Brother Martin (20) and Jesuit (23) have combined to win 43 team state championships in wrestling, and some regard the Crusaders and Blue Jays as the top two contenders to raise the gold trophy at next month’s Ochsner LHSAA State Championships in Baton Rouge.

In addition to the outstanding dual meet action on the mat, it is also senior night for Jesuit. The Blue Jay seniors will be honored in a pre-meet ceremony. CCS’ coverage will begin shortly after 6 p.m.

Saturday’s Catholic League tournament is back for the fourth time after a long hiatus. Brother Martin won the event in each of the first three years before the 2021 edition was canceled because of COVID-19.

All six Catholic League schools with wrestling programs – the host Raiders, Archbishop Shaw, Brother Martin, Holy Cross, Jesuit and John Curtis – are expected to compete.

Preliminary matches are held in the morning. CCS’ coverage begins at noon and will include the finals in each weight class.

The Crescent City Sports team is in its 11th season of producing live broadcasts for television and internet, having produced more than 350 live streams since 2012, and is continuing its extensive commitment to prep sports coverage on its website for 2021-22. CCS will also produce additional events that will both be televised by Cox Communications and streamed on the site.
